ARCH 402
2025
Winnemucca, NV
In the context of Northern Nevada, this project argues for an architecturalimaginary that counters our society’s contemporary relationship with agricultural production and its associated extraction. It is a fable that Alfalfa, a
main water absorber of the underground aquifers, will continue to be profited due to the limited water resources in Nevada. Its monopoly over other native species have limited plant diversity and prevented a rich ecosystem because of its efficient harvesting timeline.

Our site is located in the TNT farm in Humboldt County, where its economy is agriculture based. Using a farming circle as a unit, we propose a series of burm typologies to catch the nearby runoffs and precipitation. To incrementally reduce the production of alfalfa, we plan to replace it with a catalog of native plants and their seasonal calendars across a broader timeline of 50 plus years. In time, the fruits of these plants will be processed into products in the factory/ shelters that we will construct on the circles, splitting alfalfa’s economic dominance in Nevada. Over time, we hope that the circle boundaries will slowly disintegrate and reunite with the original landscape.
