Membrane
Form Finding Study
2023
In the three prototypes, we experimented with attaching the midpoint of the four edges of the membrane in a sequential approach. The connection points generated the possibility for variations in double curvature.
In the initial variation, we introduced a sequential connection of rotated points. The previous point is connected to its left adjacent point. Repeating this action, we developed a prototype with a horizontal axis of symmetry. The following variation repeated the same procedure for the other sides of the surfaces, generating two axis of symmetry. The third variation connected two co-planar points, again forming two axis of symmetry. For the final variation, we wanted to blur the connection between surfaces by joining three co-planar points together. By combining a variation of two points and three points together, we created a variation that has moments of mirroring on each elevation.
